Getting started

# Make your first QR code

![Your codes, with the New QR code button](https://qr4events.co.uk/user/plugins/dprod-qr4events/help/01.getting-started/02.make-your-first-code/codes-list.webp)

1. Sign in and go to **Your codes**.
2. Select **New QR code**.
3. Fill in the details:
    - **Name**: what the code is for, such as "Delegate badges" or "Stand B12 sponsor board". This is only for you. People scanning never see it.
    - **Event** (optional): the event it belongs to. Codes with the same event are [grouped together](https://qr4events.co.uk/help/group-codes-by-event).
    - **Notes** (optional): anything you want to remember, such as the print run or where the code appears.
4. Under **Where it goes**, enter the **Web address** people should land on. It must be a full address starting with `https://`.
5. Choose how it looks: colours, dot shape, a logo or word in the middle, and a caption. See [Design your code](https://qr4events.co.uk/help/design-your-code).
6. Select **Create QR code**.

Once it's saved, you can [download the artwork](https://qr4events.co.uk/help/download-artwork) as SVG or PNG (and EPS for plain codes).

## How a dynamic code works

The pattern in your QR code holds a short link, such as `qr4events.co.uk/q/x7k2pq`. When someone scans it, we count the scan and send them straight on to your web address.

Because the printed pattern only contains the short link, you can [change where it goes](https://qr4events.co.uk/help/change-where-a-code-goes) at any time, and nothing needs reprinting.

 Important

Always [test-scan your artwork](https://qr4events.co.uk/help/test-before-you-print) before a print run.
